Review- Ember by Carol Oates
When Candra Ember wakes up in hospital after a dangerous encounter with a red-haired woman, she is shocked to discover that seeing a winged boy wasn’t her imagination. About The Author-
Carol Oates has never been one to remain still for long. After her parents’ mad dash to the hospital through the empty city streets of Dublin, Ireland, Carol made her debut into the world in the early hours of Christmas morning. Since then her pace has not slowed down in the least.
Carol was introduced to the world of supernatural books when, as a child, her family moved to a coastal suburb of Dublin known as Clontarf, famous as the birthplace of Bram Stoker, the prolific author responsible for breathing life into the legendary story Dracula. This stirred in Carol an early passion for reading about all things supernatural. Combine that passion with a deep interest in the history and folklore of Ireland, as well as an active and vivid imagination, and Carol Oates the author was born. Carol’s love of writing about anything not entirely “human” emerged, and the premise for her debut novel, Shades of Atlantis, was born.
My Thoughts and Opinions-
The beginning of this book was very confusing for me but I liked that to understand what was going on Candra had to understand as well. Which is probably intentional! Though it was a little to hard to read in the beginning I liked that it didn't throw you in and expect you know everything.
I just fell head over heels for Sebastian. He could be such an annoying and wonderful character all at the same time! I just wished Candra wasn't so clueless how could she not realize everything he did for her was out of love! Unless she didn't want to but it was just so sweet.
When Draven was introduced my love for Sebastian slightly faltered wondering if he was the kind of person he claimed. But right until you learned Draven was going to betray her. Then on as a reader you know longer trust him even the Candra does which made it pretty annoying everytime she went to see him! Though as a character I still like Draven.
I personally was the most sad when Ivy died. I wish that didn't have to happen! But I loved how Sebastian comforted Candra. Everything goes back to the romance for me.
I loved the unique angel mythology Carol creates which is very different from anything I had read previously. When you read a book on fallen angels and their offspring's each other has their own spin but I feel like Carol really gave a little more creativity than most!
So apparently God (Arch) is gone and Candra is the weapon that they will use to restore balance! I am eagerly awaiting
the sequel, Iridescent, October 16. Iridescent paperback is available for pre-order through Barnes and Noble. Just because I want to see Sebastian and Ember together yes I am a hopeless romantic.
